MARQUETTE – If Sault Ste. Marie’s Denver Pierce had it his way, he’d be playing with Calumet’s Levi Erkkila and Marquette’s Brett Heikkila this season.
“I’ve played with those kids my whole life,” Pierce said. “We’ve always played well. I’m looking forward to playing with them again, seeing if we still got it.
“I wish I could play with them this year.”
The Soo Indians’ 5-foot-10, 160-pound, 16-year-old forward will have to wait until at least the 2014-15 season, however, when the three Upper Peninsula skaters will be freshmen on the Northern Michigan University hockey team. Read the rest of this entry »
THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO – The Soo Indians traveled the 8-9 hour drive to Thunder Bay, On to compete in their second league series of the year; this time vs Thunder Bay Kings. Unfortunately, they walked away without a win.
Saturday at 10 am the two teams were on the ice with Jamey Paron in net. After a nearly scoreless first period, the Indians went on the power play and, contrary to design, they were scored upon twice within 10 seconds on short-handed goals to end the first down 2-0. The second period started as bad with TB scoring yet another short-handed goal before Denver Pierce (Cade Nolan, Eric Tien) put the Soo on the board with a power play goal. TB came back within a couple minutes with the own power play goal to finish the second period with a 4-1 lead. The Kings scored two even strength goals in the third to complete the scoring, and the game, with a 6-1 victory. Paron stopped 28 of 34 shots for the loss. Read the rest of this entry »
West Michigan’s stingy defense and excellent goaltending was the story of games two and three as the Hounds bounced back from a 4-2 loss in the opener Saturday morning with a 4-1 victory Saturday night and a 2-0 win Sunday morning.
West Michigan broke the seal in the opening game with back-to-back goals by Tyler Reeves and Forrest Walbeck early in the second period, and it looked like the

TAYLOR, MI – The Soo Indians opened their 2011-12 season with a trip to Detroit to participate in the Motor City Cup tournament hosted by Little Caesar’s. They walked away Sunday with a satisfying 2-2 record.
“All we expected to do was go to Detroit and get some playing experience,” said Indians’ Head Coach, Rick Corbiere. “We’ve only been on the ice for two weeks and I am very happy with the way we played.” Read the rest of this entry »
The Soo Indians opened their 2011-12 hockey season with a “Meet and Greet” held at the Big Bear Arena this past Sunday. The event gave the players and parents, as well as the billet families, a chance to first meet each other and meet the coaches. The Soo Indians have announced registration and ice times for the tryouts being held this coming weekend, June 17-19.
Registration will be held at the Big Bear Arena at 5:00 pm on Friday, June 17. Registration fee is $150. Candidates will have ice time from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm Friday night. After a good night’s rest, they will have two ice times on Saturday; 10 am to Noon and 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. The final ice time will be held Sunday from 9:00 am to 11:00 am.
Selections will be announced following the Sunday morning ice session. Players selected to the team will be required to pay a $500 non-refundable deposit at that time.
All registrants must be registered with USA Hockey and provide completed Consent to Treat forms.

The Soo Indians have announced that they are accepting applications for the summer tryout camp held June 17-19, 2011. Interested candidates are advised to visit our TRYOUT page and fill out the Player Profile form and send it in as soon as you can. The fees for this year’s tryout camp is $150 and will include a minimum of four ice sessions, and guaranteed scouting by some of the best Junior A, College and OHL teams in the area.
