SAULT STE MARIE – The red hot Indians hosted the league leading Marquette Electricians this weekend. The result? The won, lost and tied.

Saturday morning’s game, in all aspects, appeared that the Indians forgot to show up. They played nothing like the team of late and they paid for it. Marquette scored twice in the second period and once in the third to take a 3-0 lead before the Indians could muster enough energy to score a goal of their own. Ryan Marker (Tyler Jones, Carson Omilusik) scored at 13:53 of the final period to prevent the shutout. Steve Dombrosky made 26 saves and 29 shots for the loss.

The evening game was a bit better for the Indians, even though they twice had to come from behind. Marquette got on the board first with a goal at 12:17 of the second. The Soo came right back with a vengeance and evened the score just :16 seconds later when Nick Tassone took the puck from Dominic Berlinger and Kevin Killips and pushed it past Marquette’s goalie.

Marquette regained their lead in the third period at the 10:05 mark. With time running down in the game, Coach Rick Corbiere pulled Dombrosky from net for the extra attacker. It paid off with just :59 seconds left when Ryan Marker (Eric Tien, Carson Omilusik) evened the score at two each to earn the Indians a tie.

With one loss and one tie, the Indians need a victory on Sunday for the trifecta. To make a 54 minute story short, Ryan Marker scored from Carson Omilusik and Kevin Killips for the game winner and Killips added another from Denver Pierce and Kyle TenEyck for a 2-0 shutout victory. Steve Dombrosky made 32 saves for the win.

“This weekend was being billed as a big series for us and I think we were a bit nervous the first game,” said coach Rick Corbiere. “We just couldn’t get our game together. We did get stronger as the weekend evolved. Overall, we did OK. Not great, just OK.”
The weekend brings the Indians overall record to 14-20-4 and 2-11-2 in league play. The Indians gave the Electricians their first loss in league play this season who are now 9-1-5 in Northern Lakes Hockey League play.

Ryan Marker extends his goal scoring streak to four games. Eric Tien’s assist this weekend keeps him as the team’s scoring leader. Steve Dombrosky continued his all-star play and improved his record to 10-4-2 since being acquired by the team.

The Indians face another big challenge next weekend when they travel to Minnesota to play Shattuck St. Mary’s in a three-game league series.
