BIG RAPIDS, MI – Former Soo Indians player, Garrett Thompson, has been named the CCHA Rookie of the Week. Garrett played for the Indians in the 2006-07 season and was moved up to Juniors with the Traverse City North Stars of the NAHL where he played for the next three years.
As a freshman forward with Ferris State University, Thompson helped Ferris State to a pair of season home-opening victories over St. Lawrence last weekend (Oct. 15-16), which featured a three-point outing with a goal and two assists in a 4-2 series-opening victory last Friday (Oct. 15) at FSU’s Ewigleben Ice Arena in Big Rapids, Mich. The 6-2, 191-pound skater also posted a plus three efficiency rating in the contest before competing in Saturday’s (Oct. 16) finale but not recording a point.
This season, Thompson presently ranks tied for top team honors with his three points (1-2=3) in as many appearances. He has recorded a plus three efficiency rating in his three games.
Ferris State currently sports a 3-1-0 overall record this season after sweeping the St. Lawrence Saints this past weekend (Oct. 15-16).
Congratulations, Garrett, and keep up the good work!
